Woo!

In case y’all hadn’t noticed, my blog was broken again. Actually, this time it wasn’t my blog’s problem, it was some sort of server issue at my web host.

No time to write now, but be prepared to discuss the following:
(1) should I blog about my career?
(2) I’m hosting next week’s discussion at Very Bookish and am tempted to link to my posts on Facebook…except that anyone with half a brain could then find my blog and I’m shy about that. If you were me, and you wrote this blog, and you had a bunch of random FB friends, would you share this with them (or provide a link that could allow them to find it?)?
(3) I am trying not to cry at work today because of work related things. See #1.
(4) I really owe HarperCollins some book reviews. We’ll be discussing the latest Rebecca Wells (of Ya-Ya Sisterhood fame), a memoir involving a boy with an autistic brother, and unicorn hunters. Yes, I said unicorn hunters. These YA novelists get more and more creative every day.
(5) I’m tempted to do the Atkins Diet. Just for two weeks, so I can feel like I’m having success with SOMETHING and then switch to Weight Watchers after getting a nice jump-start. My psychiatrist actually said this is medically sound, although I’ve always thought Atkins was batshit crazy. Thoughts?
(6) Rob actually wants to go on the show Wipeout. Hahahahaha.
(7) Please remind me that it is inadvisable to quit a job without having another.
(8) Is anyone else watching Dating in the Dark? I kind of love it.

Alright, more later.

    (5) I did the Atkins Diet for a year and a half before my wedding and lost thirty-five pounds, ten of them in the first couple of weeks. I stuck with it for about a half year after the wedding, then suddenly couldn’t face eggs and lots of meat any longer. Gained all the weight back. So it worked for me, temporarily. That seems like what you want. That’s not to say it’s not batshit crazy, though, or me, either. ;o)

    (7) I gave my notice without having anything lined up in January when I was at my wits’ end and crying before work, myself. Believe it or not, before my last day, I had already accepted an offer. It was at a former employer, though, so no doubt it gave me an edge.

I’m sorry work is so rough for you. :o (

    (2) No, I wouldn’t share it (but if you want to, you should).
    (3) I already did cry at work today. Two partners saw me afterwards, and I pretended that I had been having problems with my contacts. I don’t think either believed me.
    (6) I love Wipeout.
    (7) Well, you should probably at least try to find something first.

instead of fighting tears, perhaps you should close the door and really sob and WAIL. i mean really freak your co-workes out. and don’t quit, get fired or laid off so you can collect unemployment while you look.

  4. sizzle says:

It’s probably not advisable to quit a job without having another in this economy but I have definitely considered it. Ho hum.

I’m going back on phase one of South Beach. I think jumpstarting or doing a cleanse is smart.

  5. Jess says:

I’m sorry you’re having job issues. But it is quite inadvisable to quit one job without having another. Don’t do it!

I wouldn’t do the FB thing. Or blog about your career.

I’ve always thought that Atkins is a fine “short term” way to go- be careful about the transition, though. I would very slowly introduce carbs back in- I worry that if you add them too quickly that you’ll see an unpleasant jump in the numbers on the scale. I have a friend that switches between Atkins & South Beach and it seems to work pretty well for her.

Don’t cry at work if you can help it- go outside, take a deep breath, then think of something that makes you really happy. Focus on that then go back in.

    Happy thoughts, happy thoughts…
    ;)

  7. Mary says:

Oh, sister, sorry you are trying not cry at work right now. I hope it gets better soon!

RE: Dr. Atkins and his bacon-heavy weight loss plan…I love it. LOVE it! It works for me, but I always end up falling off the wagon. Going right from two weeks of Atkins to WW might just work. And if not…was there any harm done?

If you want to continue to get paid, you should not quit your current job without having a new one lined up. If money were not an issue, then that roadblock would be taken care of!

Also, as for putting your blog links on to FB…I wouldn’t do it. My blog entries show up as “notes” over there. I regret this a little because sometimes I want to blog about something, but I don’t want it to be on FB. I know I could change the settings so it didn’t do that, but I haven’t bothered yet. Therefore, the blog sits idle.

Also, as Dooce taught us, blogging about work is a bad idea.

    Happy thought headed your way!

Oh, man, hating your job and crying about it SUCKS, because you have to show up every day and spend more than half your LIFE there! But don’t quit – go outside, take time to look at the sky, pray a little, have a fruit smoothie.

I did a modified Atkins diet (couldn’t go without my morning bagal) and lost about 25 lbs in about 3 months. I lost the weight I gained from quitting smoking. Unfortunately, although I’m still slim and eating whatever I want again, I also smoke again! Waaaahhhhh!

I LOVE Whipeout! I would so do it myself, if I were in better shape. (I have like ZERO stamina and no muscle mass!)

  9. Sarah B. says:

    1. Probably not a good idea
    2. I wouldn’t do it, but then again, I’m the chick who still hasn’t even let her mom see her blog.
    3. I’m going to try and call you around 6:00 your time.
    4. The books sound interesting, so I’m looking forward to your reviews.
    5. I was considering doing it before I went to Vegas, but then realized that is only 1 week away. Hmmph.
    6. If he gets on, let me know so I can DVR it and laugh, repeatedly.
    7. It’s probably a bad idea, given the economy, but I wish I could just tell you to F*** it all and quit.
    8. Haven’t even heard of it, sorry.

    Love you bunches, my friend!

  10. flurrious says:

I’m sorry work is so awful. I’ve had jobs where I ended up crying in the bathroom and it’s the worst. Even so, you shouldn’t quit until you have something else lined up, unless your job is truly worse than a potentially lengthy period of unemployment.

Don’t they sometimes do a couples episode of Wipeout? You and Rob! On the big balls!

  11. Alice says:

    L-
I have never watched Wipeout, but a friend of mine told me I would be great on it. Not sure what that means?! If Rob tries out, I will too…

  12. Abby says:

Instead of Atkins, try the Flat Belly Diet for a quick start. At work I cry in the bathroom, but quitting means THEY WIN and I can’t accept that. Get your resume together and send it out – it will make you feel better. Meanwhile, hang in there!

  13. Pants says:

I am currently hating my job and looking…though it’s not advisable to quit without something lined up, I understand the desire. If you ever want to commiserate, send me an email. I would be happy to listen and swap stories.

I would be afraid to link anything to FB that would lead back to my blog, because I am shy too. Also, because my mother is one of my FB friends and I had a nightmare last night she was stalking my friends from FB to Flickr and was totally moving in on me.

  14. -R- says:

May I also request a hair update? I want to know what you did (if anything) about the highlights!

  15. Stefanie says:

I don’t know if you should blog about it, but you could definitely email me about it!

I have never seen Wipeout, but I think it’s hilarious that Rob wants to go on it.

  16. stinkypaw says:

I’ve had the same dilemma about FB and “advertising” my blog… still “secret” for now…

I did Atkins for a few months (a few years back) and managed to lose a lot. It’s not bad, except for my cholesterol (according to my quack) and the fact that I feel like vomitting every time Hubby mentions Tuna Salad, argh!

  17. I say a bit HELLS NO to linking your blog to FB. It’s all swell and dandy until some weird chick from your blog ends up finding you there and then you find out you’re in the same sorority and…nevermind.

I also vote NO on Atkins and yes on increasing your daily meat intake in general. I have been busting my ass at the gym, eating fish, and drinking half my weight in water; but it didn’t come off until I started eating red meat. Duh!

I have not been watching DITD because I am crazyglued to every Housewives show!

  18. Maria in Oregon says:

I watcing Dating in the Dark for the first time. I think it’s great! I would just LOVE to be on a show like that! (For forty-somethings.)

  19. actually my sister is healthier now because of the Atkins Diet:*.
